New Additions

We are all very excited and pleased with our new additions to our outdoor learning environment! The outdoor gym is designed and built for KS2 children to use independently and KS1 children to use with adult support. It comprises of 8 stations and the maximum of 14 children can use it at one time. So far the children love it and have enjoyed using the equipment at break times and lunch times. As the gym comes with full lesson plans we also plan to use it in PE lessons and during our after school and early morning clubs. Some of our parents have even expressed an interest using it for adult fitness classes!

We now also have a fantastic outdoor classroom/area. Within this are our benches, shade sails, wild flower/orchard area and compost bins etc. This area is fenced and gated. creating great opportunities for whole class/group learning and forest school activities as well as an effective opening and entrance area to our forest school and another new addition our pond.

The pond is stunning! It is fenced and gates are always locked when not in use. The dipping platform, benches, path, habitats, saplings, hibernaculum, fairy garden and more  have all been created and developed thoughtfully and carefully to ensure that this resource is enriches our curriculum and impacts positively on the children’s learning. It will take a while for wildlife and pond creatures to find us but we are sure they will make their way to us over the next few months.

All of this has been possible thanks to our Tesco ‘Bags of help’ grant and the Health Improvement grant that were both obtained earlier this year. The pond was created and developed by Pete Birchall (Pete the Pond) who really helped us out with this. Pete has also worked with staff and will be working with classes in the future where his expertise and enthusiasm will be hugely beneficial to our children’s learning and experience.
